Water, a so precious resource!
Pollution of rivers or underground water, intensification of climatic events (droughts and floods), overconsumption of water in certain human activities (agriculture, industry, private swimming pools, etc), lack of sanitary facilities in the poorest human habitats, lack of management for certain catchment areas which cover often several neighbouring countries: All these elements endanger the first source of life on earth. The Human Development Report 2006 which was released in November recalls that these problems have sometimes been the cause of violences between groups of populations. However, it notes that international co-operation on water issues is more frequent than those conflicts. Throughout the world, drinking water is more expensive for the poorest than for rich persons and they are 1,1 billion deprived from a regular access to safe water. It is partly for this reason that 1,8 million children die each year of diarrhoea. These scandalous figures confirms that the first human right is violated every day: The right to life. We hope that the videos below will help each of you to become even more aware about the importance of water issues.
